Predeal is one of the most important mountain resorts in Romania. It is the highest altitude town in the country.
Until less than a century ago, it was still the border point between Transylvania (Austro-Hungarian Empire) and Wallachia. Predeal is now the highest town in Romania with an altitude between 1033m-1110m. It is surrounded by five massifs: Postavarul, Piatra Mare, Bucegi, Baiului and Fitifoi. It is placed on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on the most important junction between the two regions. The ionisated air is benefic for different health issues and is recommended for recovery after mental or physical effort.
In the late years the town has known a remarkable real estate boom, with many well-off people from all over the country, having a mountain retreat in Predeal.
