Sighisoara is located in the northern part of Saxon lands Transylvania, close to Szekelyfold area and the city of Tg.Mures. The villages with fortified churches are located mainly in the area south to the road connecting Sighisoara to Medias or along the road connecting Sighisoara to Brasov.

Sighisoara is considered to be the most beautiful and well preserved preserved inhabited Medieval citadels in Europe. Sighisoara has preserved in an exemplary way the features of a small medieval fortified city and it has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Each year a Medieval Festival takes place in the old citadel in July.
In the area, there are also over 100 centuries-old fortified churches, looking like medieval castles. Lots of them are still in good condition and some of them are protected as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
